Suns owner Sarver backs McDonough in open letter to fans

Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver understands how disappointing his team's been this season. A squad that missed the playoffs by six games a year ago was supposed to contend again with the addition of Tyson Chandler, but as of Monday the Suns have the third-worst record in the NBA.

Sarver penned an open letter to fans Monday, showing his support for general manager Ryan McDonough:

In time, certain risks will ultimately look like mistakes. It didn't take long into my tenure as an NBA owner to understand that basketball decisions are not easy to make. It is my responsibility to hire the right personnel to make those decisions, and also to provide the financial resources and supportive environment to facilitate the success of our team. Our basketball decisions rest with Ryan McDonough, who I have full confidence in. Not every decision will be the right one, but he will continue to build our team around the young, talented players acquired through the draft and opportunistically in free agency. The best team in the NBA right now is a perfect example of that model.

Of course, Sarver was referring to the Golden State Warriors as the gold standard in the NBA at the moment, and it's a good team to emulate. The Suns have some exciting young pieces in Eric Bledsoe, Brandon Knight, Alex Len, and Devin Booker, but McDonough admitted just last week that he feels he traded Isaiah Thomas too soon.
