Report: Heat 'in the lead' to sign Joe Johnson

The Miami Heat are "in the lead" to sign swingman Joe Johnson, reports Ethan J. Skolnick of the Miami Herald.

Johnson was bought out Thursday and is set to clear waivers at 5 p.m. ET Saturday. The Cleveland Cavaliers were reportedly "in prime position" to sign the 34-year-old as of Thursday.

The Heat are 21st in the NBA in offensive efficiency, and could use Johnson's scoring to boost one of the weakest benches in the league.

Johnson is averaging 11.8 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.9 rebounds while shooting 37.1 percent from beyond the arc in 2015-16.
