Cavaliers happy for fan favorite Varejao after joining Warriors

After spending the entirety of his 13-year career wearing wine and gold, Anderson Varejao is now the enemy.

Varejao latched on with the Golden State Warriors after being traded from the Cleveland Cavaliers and then waived by the Portland Trail Blazers, but his former teammates harbor no resentment.

"They're going to get all of our intel now," Kevin Love joked to Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com. "Nah, but seriously, I'm happy for him. He goes to obviously a very good team. It's tough losing a brother like that and what he meant to this city, this organization. He was beloved here."

Varejao joined the Cavaliers when LeBron James was in his second season. James considers him a good friend and said he didn't have a problem with his destination.

"The man has to work. He's got to work," James said.

The most emotional Cavalier might have been Tristan Thompson, who credits Varejao for teaching him the ropes when Thompson was a rookie. Thompson would eventually replace Varejao as the Cavaliers' hustle, defense-first power forward of choice, but he owes his game to the floppy-haired Brazilian.

"Andy was more than just a teammate, he was a friend, a big brother, and so wherever he can go to keep playing, I'm happy for him, even with him being with the Warriors," Thompson said.
