Anderson Varejao's tenure with the Portland Trail Blazers is over before it started.

After acquiring the 33-year-old center in a deadline-day trade involving the Cleveland Cavaliers and Orlando Magic, the Blazers announced they have waived him.

It's unclear whether Portland bought out the remainder of Varejao's contract, or used the stretch provision to spread the two-plus years (at an average annual value of $9.8 million) left on his deal over five years.

If and when Varejao plays again this season, it will be for a team other than the Cavaliers for the first time in his career. Varejao has spent the entirety of his 12-year career with the Cavaliers, but the Cavs are not eligible to reacquire him for a full year, per NBA rules.

In 31 games, Varejao - who's coming off an Achilles tear that ended his 2014-15 season prematurely - is posting career lows in points (2.6), rebounds (2.9), minutes (10), field-goal percentage (42.1), and PER (11.4).
