Bosh feared All-Star Game would worsen 'lingering' calf injury

Miami Heat power forward Chris Bosh traveled to Toronto expecting to take part in the Three-Point Contest and play in the All-Star Game, but he'll leave having come all that way to be a spectator.

Bosh abruptly pulled out of both events on Friday - hours after participating in All-Star Media Day - due to a previously undisclosed right calf strain. Bosh stuck around the city, though, and practiced with the Eastern Conference All-Stars on Saturday.

"It was kind of lingering," he told reporters at the practice. "It just lingered and I didn't feel like it was wise to continue to push it. I'm just being smart and cautious.

"When we get back to Miami we're going to do everything we need to do to try and correct it."

Bosh had expressed his excitement about taking part in the festivities in the city he represented for the first seven years of his career, but ultimately decided it wasn't worth the risk.

"It's a bummer," he said. "But I'm still here and I still get to take everything in. We just don't want to make it a bigger problem."

Bosh's season ended around this time last year because of a life-threatening blood clot on his lung, which may have originated from a calf injury. He plans to have further tests on the ailment when he returns to Miami.

Bosh was replaced in the All-Star Game by Al Horford, and in the 3-point shootout by C.J. McCollum.
