Happy Birthday, Steve Nash: Admiring some of the greatest passes of his career

Jennifer Stewart-USA TODAY Sports

Former two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Steve Nash turned 42 years old on Sunday.

Drafted 15th overall by the Phoenix Suns in the legendary 1996 Draft, Nash went on to play 18 seasons in the league with Phoenix, the Dallas Mavericks, and the Los Angeles Lakers, making eight All-Star teams and earning three spots on the All-NBA First Team.

He also has the distinction of being the only four-time member of the 50-40-90 club, meaning he shot over 50 percent from the field, 40 percent from deep, and 90 percent from the charity stripe.

The most exciting aspect of his game, though, was his ability to set up his teammates with out-of-this-world dishes, dimes, and lobs. His creativity with the rock was simply unparalleled.

Here's a look back at a few memorable assists from the man who ranks third all-time in that department:

Here's (not) looking at you, Grant Hill

Suns teammate Grant Hill could not have been more open in the corner, and with the Miami Heat swarming Nash in the lane, the Santa Clara product knew exactly where to place the ball. Unreal.

"Steve Nash for MVP!"

Let's all forget that this wasn't an in-game assist for a moment and just enjoy how much fun it was to see Nash use his noggin (literally) to feed Amar'e Stoudemire in the 2005 NBA Slam Dunk contest.

So where's the ball, again?

What exactly were the Lakers supposed to do on this possession? Nash had everyone looking silly after bouncing the ball behind his back and dropping it off to Tim Thomas for the easy hoop.

Glimpses of "Showtime" vs. Denver

Nash's tenure with the Lakers wasn't much of a tenure at all, playing just 65 games over three seasons due to issues with his legs and back. There were some highlight-reel assists sprinkled in when he did see the floor, though, including this no-look pass over his shoulder to Chris Kaman against the Denver Nuggets.
