Kings' Gay out Thursday vs. Pelicans with eye injury

Jeremy Brevard / USA TODAY Sports

The Sacramento Kings announced Wednesday that Rudy Gay will not play in Thursday's game against the New Orleans Pelicans.

The dynamic swingman suffered a corneal abrasion after getting poked in the eye by Charlotte Hornets point guard Kemba Walker on Monday.

Gay sat out Tuesday's loss to the Portland Trail Blazers due to the injury.

On the season, the UConn product is averaging 18 points and shooting 32.8 percent from beyond the arc, while rounding out his contributions with 6.9 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.

Gay's 23 percent usage rate ranks second on the team, so head coach George Karl will likely have to spread the wealth among other offensive weapons on the wing, such as Ben McLemore, Marco Belinelli, and Omri Casspi, in his absence.
