Bulls' McDermott diagnosed with knee strain, Dunleavy at least 2-3 weeks away

Taskmaster Tom Thibodeau is gone, but the injury issues remain.

Chicago Bulls head coach Fred Hoiberg told reporters Tuesday that an MRI revealed nothing structurally wrong in small forward Doug McDermott's strained right knee, the same knee he had surgery on last season.

McDermott is considered day to day, and might even appear in the Bulls' next game against the Indiana Pacers. He's largely played through the soreness after exiting a game two weeks ago with the injury, but he sat out Chicago's win over the Toronto Raptors on Monday.

Hoiberg added that small forward Mike Dunleavy remains at least 2-3 weeks away from doing on-court work. Offseason back surgery, along with a series of setbacks, have conspired to keep Dunleavy away from the team for the first third of the season - and perhaps the entire year.

McDermott and Dunleavy are the Bulls' best 3-point shooters. McDermott is hitting a blistering 42.4 percent from deep, while Dunleavy has the most 3-point makes for Chicago since he joined the team in 2013.
