Report: D'Antoni pushed for Sixers to acquire Ish Smith

Mike D'Antoni has already made an impact on the Philadelphia 76ers front office after being hired just one week ago, according to multiple reports.

D'Antoni pushed hard for the Sixers to acquire point guard Ish Smith, a trade they completed on Christmas eve, reports John Reid of The Times Picayune, because he was "impressed with Smith's abilities."

The move is particularly interesting since it seems to be the antithesis of what current general manager Sam Hinkie believes. Hinkie has been renowned for his deep affection for second-round picks, two of which the Sixers forfeited when they acquired the 27-year-old journeyman.

The Sixers made noise earlier this month when they hired Jerry Colangelo as their new chairman of basketball operations, a sign they may be shifting away from "The Process."

After a 1-30 start to the season, it appears Philadelphia may be willing to mortgage a portion of their future in return for fielding a more competitive team for the remainder of 2015-16.
