Brandon Jennings to suit up for Pistons, unlikely to play next 3 games

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

The freewheeling, shot-happy water bug that is Brandon Jennings will be in uniform for the first time this season when the Detroit Pistons take on the Miami Heat.

However, Jennings is unlikely to play until next week's clash with the New York Knicks, according to Keith Langlois of Pistons.com.

The 26-year-old is coming off an Achilles tear that ended his season in January. He's since been given clearance for full basketball activities, and spent a memorable one-game stint rehabbing in the D-League.

Once he makes his official return to the rotation, he'll have to play third-string minutes behind starter Reggie Jackson and backup Steve Blake. Considering the severity of his injury, it only makes sense to bring him along slowly.

Jennings is far too accomplished to remain under wraps, though, and once he returns to full speed, he'll give the Pistons' woeful bench some much-needed scoring and playmaking.

Through 41 games, Jennings averaged 15.4 points, 6.6 assists, and 2.5 rebounds in 28.6 minutes per contest in 2014-15.
