Iman Shumpert: Ruled out for Thursday's game

Shumpert (groin) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Thunder, ESPN.com's Dave McMenamin reports.

Analysis:

Fortunately for Shumpert, who suffered the right groin ailment in the fourth quarter of Tuesday's win over the Celtics, it doesn't sound like he will require an MRI to address the injury, which would seem to take a long-term absence off the table. However, Shumpert did receive treatment for the injury following Tuesday's game, and if his body ended up responding poorly overnight, it's possible that team doctors could end up ordering a follow-up examination. In any event, the Cavs' quick decision to rule Shumpert out for Thursday would seem to suggest the groin injury could at the very least be a multi-day issue, so his chances of playing Sunday against the 76ers don't appear particularly promising at this time. Even if Shumpert is able to quickly shake off the groin injury, it's a disappointing setback for a player who was making just his second appearance of the season Tuesday after missing the first month and a half while recovering from wrist surgery.
