Report: Rockets looking to move Lawson

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Ty Lawson's days as a member of the Houston Rockets may be numbered following a discouraging start to the 2015-16 regular season.

The team is engaging in trade talks in an effort to move the 28-year-old point guard, with the hope being they'll receive close to what they originally invested in him when acquiring him this past offseason, according to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Denver Nuggets shipped Lawson to the Rockets back in July in exchange for Joey Dorsey, Nick Johnson, Kostas Papanikolaou, Pablo Prigioni, a 2016 conditional first-round draft pick (becomes second-rounder if Houston misses the playoffs), a 2017 second-round pick, and cash considerations.

Since arriving in the Lone Star State, Lawson has seen his role slowly diminish as the season progressed, going from a starter alongside James Harden - who he's failed to establish any semblance of on-court chemistry with - to a reserve where minutes are hard to come by.

His numbers nearly across the board are the lowest of his seven-year playing career. In 26 appearances for the underachieving 13-14 Rockets, Lawson is averaging just 5.9 points on 32.9 percent shooting, along with 4.2 assists in 25.2 minutes per game. It was just last year when Lawson ranked third in the NBA in assists per game at 9.6.

The Rockets would like to keep the North Carolina alumnus, although Lawson's "people" would prefer if he had more playing time with someone else, ESPN's Calvin Watkins reports.

Lawson is set to serve a two-game suspension for a DUI charge he received while playing in Denver back in January. Wojnarowski adds that Houston wanting to part ways with Lawson has nothing to do with his past with alcohol, though, and everything to do with how he's failed to fit in on the hardwood.
