Cavs activate Shumpert, Kyrie still out

Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

Shooting guard Iman Shumpert is listed as active for the Cleveland Cavaliers' Friday night game against the Orlando Magic, but coach David Blatt says Kyrie Irving is not ready to return.

Blatt hinted at the imminent return of both players Thursday. The perimeter defense specialist Shumpert hasn't played since Game 6 of last June's Finals after suffering a ruptured extensor carpi ulnaris sheath in his right wrist during training camp.

In a 2014-15 season split between the Cavs and New York Knicks, Shumpert averaged eight points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.3 steals. He signed a reported four-year, $40-million deal with Cleveland in July.

While the status of "active" doesn't necessarily mean he will play, the chances are very good Shumpert hits the floor in Orlando as the Cavs are without swingman J.R. Smith, who's dealing with an illness.
