NBA sold out of Porzingis jerseys
Like Linsanity before it, Kristaps Porzingis fever is sweeping the nation, and the NBA has proven unprepared for the outbreak.
Just three weeks into his rookie season with the New York Knicks, the burgeoning, 7-foot-3 20-year-old's popularity has gone through the roof, thanks to a cavalcade of highlight-reel putbacks; a gutsy, would-be game-winner; an electric 29-point, 11-rebound breakout at Madison Square Garden; and a suddenly competitive Knicks team brimming with hope for the first time in eons.
As a result, the league - which probably didn't see all this coming after he was booed lustily on draft night - has completely sold out of Porzingis jerseys, according to ESPN's Darren Rovell.
The good news: A new (and likely larger) stock will reportedly hit stores Friday, so those jersey-starved Porzingis converts needn't wait long to get their fix.
"Right now, we have Porzingis jerseys in 40 stores in New York," Dave Brown, a Modell's license buyer, told Christian Red from the New York Daily News. "We have a very good amount on the way to the online (Modell's) store and a very, very large amount on its way to the store next to the Garden. By next Wednesday, his jerseys will be in all the chain stores in New York and our inventory will quadruple."
