Dwyane Wade out vs. Jazz for personal reasons

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Heat will be without shooting guard Dwyane Wade for their bout against the Utah Jazz on Thursday.

Head coach Erik Spoelstra announced ahead of the game that Wade is in the hospital with his son, who, he added, is "OK."

Wade continues to thrive in his 13th season with the Heat, with the 33-year-old averaging 18 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 4.4 assists. However, he has looked awkward at times next to point guard Goran Dragic, as the two ball-dominant guards have yet to find some semblance of on-court chemistry.

The Heat will be in tough against the Jazz's gritty fourth-ranked defense without their No. 1 option. The team is already without Gerald Green (suspension), so the seldom-used Tyler Johnson will likely draw the start at shooting guard.

Reinforcements are on the way for the Heat, however, as newly acquired pieces Beno Udrih and Jarnell Stokes will be made available for the first time since being acquired in a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Heat are 5-3 on the season, while the Jazz are 4-3.
