Cuban says he saved text messages from Jordan, could make them public

Ray Carlin-USA TODAY Sports

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban doesn't appear willing to forgive and forget what happened this offseason in his failed courtship of free-agent center DeAndre Jordan.

The near 7-footer had a verbal agreement in place to sign with Cuban's Mavericks, but ultimately reneged on his commitment to re-up with the Los Angeles Clippers on a max contract of around $87 million over four seasons.

Cuban and Jordan had gone back and forth in a series of text messages the Monday prior to the free agency moratorium coming to an end. Jordan eventually got quiet the following day, telling Cuban he was on a date, which turned out to be him meeting with Clippers teammate Blake Griffin.

Low and behold, the billionaire philanthropist says he still has those messages saved on his phone, and is even willing to detail them all at a later date, according to the Los Angeles Times' Ben Bolch.

"Some day I'll let you read all the texts and we'll get into it and we'll talk about it, but now is not the right time," Cuban said.

Mavericks All-Star Dirk Nowitzki doesn't hold nearly as much animosity - if any - towards Jordan as Cuban does.

"We've all changed our mind before," Nowitzki said Tuesday, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon. "I think the franchise and the fans were not happy with the way he went about it - not responding to Cubes and Parsons anymore and kind of put-the-head-in-the-sand strategy instead of being upfront and saying, 'Hey, I changed my mind,' and just being honest about it. I think that's what rubbed people the wrong way, but it's over. It was in July. We’re in frickin’ November now."

The Mavericks (3-4) and Clippers (5-2) clash at the American Airlines Center Wednesday night for their first meeting of the season in Dallas. ESPN has begun hyping up the game with promos revolving around Cuban and Jordan to add interest to what will probably wind up being a rather uninteresting ball game.
