Pistons' Jennings says Drummond is NBA's best big man

Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

Continuing his recovery from a ruptured left Achilles, Detroit Pistons point guard Brandon Jennings has one of the best seats in the house watching center Andre Drummond put up monster numbers to begin the 2015-16 season.

Over the past four games, the 22-year-old UConn alumnus is averaging 20.3 points on 49.2 percent shooting, 19.5 rebounds, 1.8 steals, and 1.8 blocks with a player efficiency rating of 27.3. In a 94-82 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday evening, Drummond came awfully close to putting up a 30-30 line, finishing with 25 points and 29 rebounds in 43 minutes of action.

That performance was enough to convince Jennings that his teammate is one of the five best players in the league through the first week.

Not only was it the second straight outing Drummond posted at least 20 points and 20 rebounds, but it also made him just the fourth player since the NBA-ABA merger to total over 75 points and 75 rebounds through the first four games of a season, according to Elias Sports.

Jennings isn't going as far as saying Drummond is one of the five best overall players in the league, though. He's simply praising a player who has been nothing short of dominant to begin the year.

Drummond currently ranks second in minutes per game (39), 22nd in scoring, first in rebounding, 19th in steals, and 16th in blocked shots. His on-off numbers would make you believe head coach Stan Van Gundy replaces him with no one when he subs out of games, as the Pistons are a staggering 42.7 points better offensively per 100 possessions when he's on the floor, while allowing 31.5 points per 100 possessions more on the defensive end when he sits.

Jennings, who was cleared to return to full basketball activities last month, is expected back before the end of the year.
