Report: Magic not expected to sign Fournier, Nicholson to contract extensions

The Orlando Magic appear poised to let Andrew Nicholson and Evan Fournier enter restricted free agency next summer.

TNT's David Aldridge reports that the Magic are unlikely to sign Nicholson to a contract extension. Similarly, a deal for Fournier is also unlikely, Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports reports.

The Magic have the opportunity to sign Nicholson and Fournier to extensions by Monday's 11:59 p.m. ET deadline since both players are former first-round picks entering the last year of their rookie-scale contracts.

Failing to reach a deal with Nicholson is no great surprise. The 25-year-old has been in steady decline since his rookie season and fell out of the rotation towards the end of last season. This year has been no different, as Nicholson has made just one four-minute appearance in three games.

Fournier, however, has served a Sixth Man role since joining the Magic in a trade for Arron Afflalo last summer. The French national posted career highs of 12 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists along with 37.8 percent shooting from deep in 28.6 minutes last season, while operating mostly as a point or shooting guard.

The 23-year-old Fournier, who previously played for the Denver Nuggets, had also said earlier this offseason that signing an extension "would be awesome," but evidently, no deal is likely to be struck.

Nicholson and Fournier were drafted 19th and 20th, respectively, in the 2012 NBA Draft.
