Pistons' Meeks suffers Jones fracture in right foot during home opener

Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports

Jodie Meeks lasted all of six minutes Wednesday night during the Detroit Pistons' home opener against the Utah Jazz before leaving with an apparent foot injury.

The 28-year-old guard left during the second quarter and did not return, finishing without a basket in an eventual 92-87 victory for Detroit.

Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy said after the game that Meeks has been diagnosed with a Jones fracture in his right foot, with no timetable set for his return, the Detroit News' Rod Beard reports.

Meeks agreed to a reported three-year, $19-million contract last summer. In 60 appearances during the 2014-15 season, Meeks averaged 11.1 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.3 assists on 41.6 percent shooting from the field, and 34.9 percent shooting from behind the arc.

With Meeks out of the lineup, both Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Reggie Bullock should see a boost in playing time in the Pistons' backcourt.

A Jones fracture is the same injury which cost 2014 NBA MVP Kevin Durant all but 27 games last season.
