Smith's signing with the Pelicans comes two days after he was waived from the Wizards. New Orleans had a need at point guard, with Tyreke Evans (knee) and Norris Cole (ankle) both out for the first month or two of the season and Jrue Holiday on a 15-minute per game restriction. Expect Smith to get some minutes in relief of Holiday and Nate Robinson in the early going this season.
