Bulls' Butler removed rearview mirror as reminder not to look back

Dwelling on the past is something Chicago Bulls All-Star Jimmy Butler simply refuses to do.

In fact, the 26-year-old's belief in not reliving his yesteryears is so strong he's even removed the rearview mirror from his car as a reminder to "never look back," which he confessed to Chicago Magazine's Bryan Smith.

When asked why he loathes talking about the past so much, Butler said:

It’s because I don’t ever want that to define me. I hated it whenever it came up because that’s all anybody ever wanted to talk about. Like, that hasn’t gotten me to where I am today. I’m a great basketball player because of my work. I’m a good basketball player because of the people I have around me. And if I continue to be stuck in the past, then I won’t get any better. I won’t change, I’ll get stuck as that kid. That’s not who I am. I’m so far ahead of that. I don’t hold grudges. I still talk to my family. My mom. My father. We love each other. That’s never going to change.

There wasn't any mention of Butler also getting rid of his side mirrors, which would violate Illinois law.

Still, losing a key part of any motor vehicle simply to make a symbolic gesture comes off as a rather reckless move on Butler's part.

Butler signed a five-year, $94-million extension this summer after averaging 20 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.3 assists for the 50-win Bulls in 2014-15.
