Lakers' Bass set for more tests on left knee after inconclusive X-ray

What originally looked like a minor scare may be a bigger deal than the Los Angeles Lakers hoped.

Brandon Bass appeared to injure his left knee during Tuesday's preseason game against the Utah Jazz, but he was able to walk it off and return to the game. On Wednesday, Bass underwent a precautionary X-ray, the results of which were inconclusive. He's now set to undergo further tests in Los Angeles on Thursday, the Lakers announced.

This could be a case of the team wanting to play it extra cautious ahead of the season. The Lakers signed Bass to a two-year, $6.1-million deal this summer and he figures to either start at power forward or be Julius Randle's primary backup at the position.

Bass came off the bench in each of the team's preseason games so far, scoring 16 points with eight rebounds in 41 total minutes. The 30-year-old averaged 10.6 points and 4.9 rebounds for the Boston Celtics last season, roughly in line with his career averages, and has missed just one game over the last three seasons.
