Klay Thompson on the Bucks passing on him in the draft: 'I thank God every day'

Klay Thompson says he dodged a bullet at the 2011 NBA Draft.

The Golden State Warriors sharpshooter slipped all the way to 11th at the 2011 NBA draft, and while the anxiety of waiting around couldn't have helped, Thompson was at least glad that the Milwaukee Bucks passed up on him at 10th.

Instead of selecting Thompson, the Bucks traded the pick to New Orleans for a package involving Tobias Harris and Beno Udrih. That pick was eventually used to select another shooter: Jimmer Fredette.

Four years into their respective careers, it's safe to say that Milwaukee and New Orleans missed out. As for Thompson - who hails from Los Angeles - trading snowy winters for year-round sunlight was most definitely a win.

Thompson's comments also stand as a testament to the Warriors' front office, who have been tremendously good to him over the past four seasons. It signed Thompson to a max extension and refused to deal him for Kevin Love last summer. The team is also coming off a 67-win season and a successful championship run.
