Pelicans' Perkins compares Davis to Garnett, Durant

Veteran Kendrick Perkins, who joined the New Orleans Pelicans in July on a one-year deal, sees similarities between the leader of the fourth team in his pro career and an old teammate that Perkins won a championship with.

"You look at his body and the way he plays, he's got a lot of Kevin Garnett in him," Perkins said of burgeoning superstar Anthony Davis.

Perkins has been around the proverbial block, having spent most of his dozen seasons in the Association playing alongside some of the league's greatest hardwood heroes of their respective generations.

Sharing frontcourt duties with Garnett during his tenure with the Boston Celtics - which included a NBA title in 2007-08 - provided Perkins the opportunity to witness Garnett's relentless work ethic and defensive focus firsthand.

The man once known as "The Big Ticket" entered the league in 1995 with a unique skill set that did not quite match his long, slender frame. A young Garnett was capable of getting a defensive stop, leading the break, and finishing strong at the rim - all on his own.

"The Brow" - as Perkins, and even Garnett himself, notes - exhibits the same guard-like proficiency.

When it comes to Davis' demeanor, however, Perkins feels the 22-year-old forward has more in common with a different Kevin.

"His personality outside of basketball, he's got a lot of Kevin Durant in him," Perkins said, aligning his former Oklahoma City Thunder teammate with Davis.

Durant and Perkins went to battle together for approximately four seasons - making it to the NBA Finals in 2012 - with Durant leading the charge as the team's quiet assassin.

Davis - not one for loud self-promotion or overzealous celebrations - has displayed a poise which makes comparisons to Durant's approach legitimate.

In spite of such complimentary resemblances, however, Davis' evolving talents may soon make it difficult to compare him to any other player - past or present.
