VIDEO: Greg Oden practices in China, has officially signed with Jiangsu

Greg Oden is officially back in basketball. Again.

The former No. 1 overall pick passed his tryout period with the Jiangsu Dragons of the Chinese Basketball Association, with the team's new ownership group announcing his official signing on their Facebook page Monday.

Oden signed a reported one-year, $1.2-million contract with the Dragons, and Jiangsu brought Oden in for workouts last week to confirm his health. While the video from his recent practice is limited, Oden appears quite comfortable backing down his new teammates and scoring against them in the post.

The Portland Trail Blazers made Oden the No. 1 pick out of Ohio State in 2007 but he almost immediately required microfracture surgery on his right knee. Oden would miss the entire 2007-08 season and then play 82 games over the next two years, requiring multiple surgeries on both knees between 2009 and 2012.

Oden was officially waived in late 2012 and made a comeback with the Miami Heat in the 2013-14 season. He took the 2014-15 season off in order to deal with "life stuff," and while he reportedly hoped for another NBA comeback, China allows him to make guaranteed money and demonstrate his health to potential stateside suitors.

Talent has never been the issue for the 7-footer, as the 27-year-old's averaged eight points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks while shooting 57.4 percent in 105 career games.
