Baron Davis believes he can play 20 minutes per game in potential NBA comeback

Debby Wong-US PRESSWIRE

The last time All-Star point guard Baron Davis suited up for an NBA game was in 2011-12 with the New York Knicks - one year before the team last qualified for the postseason, winning 54 games.

Davis is 36 years old now, having been away from the league after completely tearing the ACL and MCL in his right knee. With a pep in his step and an optimistic outlook for what lies ahead, the UCLA alumnus believes he's ready to make a genuine attempt at a comeback.

Not only that, but Davis thinks he can play a respectable amount of minutes out of the gate, as he recently told Bleacher Report's Jared Zwerling.

It appears that Davis is being completely genuine. No joking around here, unlike the mockumentary he made last year where he poked fun at a possible return to the NBA.

He also hinted at a return during an appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio last month, acknowledging that he was going to put himself out there and "try out for some teams."

The current crop of point guards running rampant through the league may be the deepest and most talented to ever play the position. Davis, at his age and with his troubled knees, could be in for a world of hurt trying to keep pace with the likes of Russell Westbrook and Stephen Curry on a nightly basis.

It's hard to blame him for wanting 20 minutes per game, though, as that's all he was accustomed to during his 13-year career - only averaging below that during his rookie campaign with the Charlotte Hornets.

In 835 games, Davis averaged 16.1 points and 7.8 dimes playing for the Hornets, Knicks, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, and Cleveland Cavaliers.

If the whole comeback doesn't pan out as expected, Davis will at least have a fallback plan in comedy, acting as one of (if not the only) bright spot in the otherwise dreadful "Joe Dirt 2."
