USA Basketball releases 34-man roster for minicamp: James in, Rose absent

Derrick Rose is valuing rest over the chance to suit up for USA Basketball at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

USA Basketball released their 34-man roster for their 2015 men's national team minicamp later this month in Las Vegas on Thursday, and Rose was the most notable name absent.

While the Chicago Bulls superstar was set to play for the gold-medal winning 2012 team before tearing his ACL in the 2012 playoffs, and while he used the 2014 FIBA World Cup as a means of shaking off the rust from subsequent injuries, he was reportedly torn about participating in the minicamp or getting additional offseason rest.

By missing the minicamp, Rose is essentially bowing out of consideration for the Olympic squad, as managing director Jerry Colangelo has been clear that the minicamp - described as more of a "reunion" than arduous tryout - was a prerequisite.

There aren't many surprises on the roster otherwise. Most major names participating, including LeBron James, were rumored to be involved ahead of time. James, teammate Kyrie Irving, and several others will attend but not participate in non-contact workouts or an intrasquad scrimmage, ESPN's Marc Stein reports.

The camp, which will take place Aug. 11-13, includes 11 members from the 2014 FIBA World Cup championship team that punched the program's ticket to the 2016 Olympics. It also includes eight members of the 2012 Olympic gold medal-winning team, and eight names that are new to the 2014-16 USA National Team roster.

The full roster is as follows:
