Flexibility is at a premium for the Los Angeles Clippers, an unfortunate reality for Lester Hudson.

The Clippers are expected to waive Hudson before end of business Wednesday, removing his non-guaranteed, $1-million salary from their books, according to Ben Bolch of The Los Angeles Times.

If Hudson remains on the roster past Wednesday, his salary would become guaranteed.

The 30-year-old fought his way back to the NBA last season after two years in China. He appeared in five games for the Clippers, scoring 18 points with eight rebounds, five assists, and six steals. A 6-foot-3 point guard, Hudson was formerly a second-round pick of the Boston Celtics and has appeared in 57 games with five teams since 2009.

Even at the minimum salary, the Clippers can't afford to lock up a roster spot on a player not certain to have a role with the club. They're well into the luxury tax with 11 players on guaranteed deals and are unlikely to carry 15 bodies. Since they remain interested in Josh Smith and Glen Davis, Hudson is expendable.

Jordan Hamilton faces a similar situation to Hudson as a non-guaranteed contract, but he doesn't have an early guarantee date like Hudson. The 24-year-old offers more upside than Hudson and plays a position of need on the wing. He doesn't seem worried about his job security.
