James on Curry: 'He's the best shooter in our league'

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry had just finished shooting the lights out in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, scoring 17 of his 37 points in the final 12 minutes to help lead his team to a 104-91 win and 3-2 series lead.

He ended the night 13-of-23 from the field and 7-of-13 from behind the arc, raising his record number of made 3-pointers in a single postseason to 95.

LeBron James, still in awe of what he'd just witnessed, had high praise for the league MVP and his sensational shooting performance following the game:

I thought he was great. You tip your hat off to a guy like that. He made seven threes. I don't know, were any of them not contested, hand in his face, falling, stepback off the dribble? I'm okay with that. We're okay with that. I mean, you tip your hat to a guy who makes shots like that, and he's the guy that can do it in our league.

He's the best shooter in our league.

Cleveland's defense posed little challenge for Curry's deadeye precision as The Chef nailed two-thirds of his shots with a defender in his vicinity.

James, who amassed the sixth NBA Finals triple-double of his legendary 12-year career, doesn't believe Curry was the main reason the Cavaliers couldn't pull out the win, though.

"We gave up 18 fast-break points," he said. "We gave up 15 second chance points. Steph was special, obviously, but him hitting those step-back threes is not why we lost the game."

After shooting just 39.7 percent from the field and 32.4 percent from long range in the opening three games, Curry looks like he's finally got his groove back, raising those percentages to 52.5 and 55 over the last two.

Golden State should have no problem closing out the series in Game 6 at Quicken Loans Arena if Curry can continue to shoot the rock that efficiently.
