Grizzlies' Beno Udrih planning to return for Game 4 on Monday

Justin Ford-USA TODAY Sports

The Memphis Grizzlies will have four chances to try to close out the Portland Trail Blazers, the first of which will come without the aid of Mike Conley.

At the very least, though, they'll have Conley's backup back in the lineup.

Beno Udrih missed Game 3 after suffering a sprained ankle - and playing through it - in Game 2, but he's declared himself ready for Game 4 on Monday. He'll join Nick Calathes in trying to hold down the fort against Damian Lillard, as Conley's out at least one game due to a facial injury that's believed to be serious.

"Just play great, do your jobs," Udrih said of Conley's message for his teammates, whom he left to return to Memphis on Sunday. "And wished us good luck. We pretty much wished him good luck, also."

The Grizzlies have a comfortable 3-0 cushion in the series but wrapping things up could be difficult without Conley, an excellent two-way player. Calathes is a strong defender and a ball-hawk on defense, while Udrih is a capable scorer off the bench, so the two of them may be able to stem the tide in tandem.

Player Pts/36 Ast/36 Stl/36
Conley 17.9 6.1 1.4
Udrih 14.6 5.3 1.1
Calathes 10.4 6.3 2.7

Udrih played well in the first two games of the series, scoring 30 points on 13-of-23 shooting in 43 minutes while adding eight rebounds and eight assists. Calathes had 13 points, four rebounds and three assists in Udrih's stead in Game 2, filling in late after Conley was lost to injury.
