Matt Barnes: Allen Iverson used to spend $30-40K at strip clubs

Well, here's one way to burn through over $200 million in career salary and endorsement earnings.

According to Los Angeles Clippers forward and former teammate Matt Barnes, retired NBA star Allen Iverson routinely blew his money at the club. And not just any clubs or any small stacks, we're talking 10 bands, 50 bands, 100 bands.

Barnes explained to Chris Ballard of Sports Illustrated about his brief time with the Philadelphia 76ers:

Allen was the first guy that showed me how NBA players spend money in strip clubs. That guy went. HARD. He’d throw so much money, and this was when I was first in the league, that I used to take my foot and scoop the s--- under my chair and either re-throw it or put some in my pocket. He’d throw $30,000, $40,000 every time we went. I’m like, ‘You realize what I can do with this money?'

Iverson has reportedly come upon hard times financially since retiring and doesn't start receiving payments from a $32-million trust in his name until he's 55.

Players like Iverson - and Antoine Walker, who likewise blew through his sizable career earnings - serve as a strong cautionary tales for young players cashing in for the first time as NBA players.
