Rose won't return to Bulls Sunday; Hinrich still out

Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Sports

It wasn't expected that Derrick Rose would make his return to the Chicago Bulls lineup on Sunday, but maybe the Paul George news had everyone feeling optimistic.

The Bulls announced Saturday that Rose will not play against the Cleveland Cavaliers, even though he continues to participate in contact practices. It is expected the point guard will see action in the regular season before the Bulls begin the playoffs, and Rose will naturally be on a minutes restriction.

After Sunday's Central Division showdown with Cleveland, Chicago has five games remaining starting Wednesday with a back-to-back in Florida against the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat

Rose underwent surgery on his right meniscus on Feb. 27.

Chicago sits three games behind the Cavs for both the Central Division lead and the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference going into Saturday's action.

The team also announced that Rose's longtime sub Kirk Hinrich will miss his second straight game Sunday due to a knee injury suffered Wednesday against the Milwaukee Bucks.
