Thunder's Kanter sprains ankle in win over Celtics

Mark D. Smith-USA TODAY Sports

The Oklahoma City Thunder continue to feel the injury wrath.

Enes Kanter sprained his left ankle in Wednesday's 122-118 win over the Boston Celtics and was walking with a pronounced limp after the game. He said he was in plenty of pain, but X-rays on the ankle, and his wrist, came back negative

Kanter suffered the injury in the waning moments of the victory and didn't return after the leaving the contest. He's unsure if he'll miss any of the Thunder's upcoming games this weekend - Friday against the Atlanta Hawks and Sunday versus the Miami Heat.

Injuries have plagued Oklahoma City throughout the duration of the season. Russell Westbrook missed close to a month in November after fracturing his hand, while reigning MVP Kevin Durant has played fewer than half the team's games with various leg injuries.

Durant's missed the Thunder's last 14 contests after having a second surgical procedure the right foot he fractured just prior to the start of the season. He could, however, return to the lineup this weekend.

To make matters worse, Oklahoma City just recently lost Serge Ibaka for four-to-six weeks due to a knee injury that required surgery.

The numerous injuries have slowed the usual Western Conference powerhouse down. After five straight playoff appearances, including four consecutive division titles, the Thunder are clinging on to the No. 8 seed. They moved a half-game ahead of the New Orleans Pelicans for the final playoff spot in the West with Monday's win.

Kanter has been a force on the offensive end since joining the Thunder in a deadline deal with the Utah Jazz. He entered Monday averaging 16 points and 10.4 rebounds while shooting 54 percent from the field in 12 games with Oklahoma City. Kanter's double-doubled in four straight games after putting up 22 points and 10 rebounds Monday.
