Anthony Davis 'checked out fine' after taking elbow to head

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

It briefly looked like another scare for the New Orleans Pelicans: Power forward Anthony Davis left Monday's game against the Brooklyn Nets after being hit in the face by a Deron Williams elbow.

Davis left for the locker room in the fourth quarter for evaluation, and Jennifer Hale of Fox Sports reported the issue was not believed to be serious. The MVP candidate returned to the bench for the last few minutes of the game, but the Pelicans were up so substantially at that point there was no value in putting him back in.

"I got elbowed in the face," Davis said. "That's really it. I'm fine. (They did) just precautionary (testing), but it checked out fine."

The Pelicans appear to have dodged a bullet one day after losing Tyreke Evans to an ankle injury. On the other side, the Nets had a terrible night, losing three wing players - Sergey Karasev, Markel Brown and Alan Anderson to injuries.

New Orleans won 111-91. Davis finished with 15 points and six rebounds a night after dropping a career-high 43 with 10 rebounds against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Davis has missed 13 games this season with shoulder and chest injuries. The Pelicans have four days off before their next game Sunday against the Denver Nuggets.
