Report: Jazz to sign Jerrelle Benimon to 10-day contract
The Utah Jazz continue to be one of the league's most active patrons of the D-League.
The Jazz are set to sign power forward Jerrelle Benimon to a 10-day contract, according to a report from Chris Reichert of Road to the Association.
The undrafted rookie out of Towson signed a two-year deal with the Denver Nuggets with a partial guarantee this summer, but was waived ahead of the season, earning $35,000 for his troubles. He had performed well at Summer League with the Nuggets and Miami Heat, appearing in six preseason games for Denver.
Benimon went to the D-League from there, appearing in 35 games with Idaho and averaging 19.9 points, 10.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists while shooting 62.4 percent from the floor. He had similarly robust production as a senior last season, averaging 18.7 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists in leading Towson to the CIT quarterfinals.
The Jazz continue to cycle D-League players through their final roster spots, having previously given a shot to Jack Cooley, Bryce Cotton, Chris Johnson, Elliot Williams, Patrick Christopher and Elijah Millsap, who they eventually signed to a multi-year deal. The Jazz have also been aggressive in assigning their own young players to Idaho, their exclusive affiliate.
