Cavaliers' Irving will not play Sunday due to shoulder strain

David Richard / USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Cavaliers will be without point guard Kyrie Irving for the second straight game when they travel to Houston to face the Rockets on Sunday.

Irving was diagnosed with a right shoulder strain - which he suffered during Thursday's game against the Golden State Warriors - and is currently listed as day-to-day.

Without Irving and a sore-backed LeBron James, the red-hot Cavs fell to the Indiana Pacers on Friday night for just their third loss in their past 21 games. They shot 36 percent from the field and scored just 86 points, their lowest scoring output since Jan. 11.

During Cleveland's 18-2 tear, Irving averaged 23.4 points and 5.3 assists, shooting 48.8 percent from the field and 45.6 percent from downtown. The Cavs are 1-3 this season when he doesn't play.

Irving's status will be updated Tuesday morning, ahead of the Cavaliers' game against the Boston Celtics.
