Love drains 8 threes as Cavs win for 17th time in 19 games

David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

There is just no stopping the Cleveland Cavaliers right now.

Even on a night when LeBron James didn't shoot that well from the field, or from the line, and committed nine turnovers, the Cavs walked out of a road game decisive winners. Cleveland topped the likewise-warm Detroit Pistons 102-93 on Tuesday, ruining the homecoming of Tayshaun Prince.

James did manage to dish 11 assists, score 19 points and add seven rebounds, becoming the league's all-time leader in dimes among forwards.

Kevin Love was the primary beneficiary of James' pass-happy ways, with James assisting on five of Love's eight 3-point field goals. That tied a career-high for Love, who finished with 24 points, nine rebounds and three assists of his own.

Love previously went 8-of-9 from outside on Dec. 13, 2013, a rate he couldn't quite match Tuesday with an 8-of-14 mark.

Prince's re-introduction wasn't the only debut Tuesday, as Kendrick Perkins suited up for the Cavs for the first time. Perkins and his championship DNA played two minutes off the bench, scoring two points and committing a turnover.

The victory was Cleveland's 17th in its last 19 games. The Cavs appear more or less unstoppable now that they've balanced the roster and restored James to health. Following a 19-20 start, the Cavs have surged to 36-22, vaulting into fourth in the Eastern Conference and just a half-game back of the Chicago Bulls for third.

They'll face a very tough test Thursday when the Golden State Warriors visit The Q in quite the measuring-stick game.

With the loss, the Pistons fall to 23-34, though they've played well of late and have still won six of their last 10 games. Reggie Jackson continued to look solid in his new home, approaching a triple-double with 22 points, eight rebounds and nine assists.

The Pistons will look to rebound on Friday against the lowly New York Knicks.
