Cousins gives cryptic postgame rant about Karl, Kings' coaching situation

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

DeMarcus Cousins' cryptic postgame rant after sinking the Phoenix Suns with a buzzer-beater Sunday added to the Sacramento Kings already wild season.

From coaching changes, to another miserable performance on the court, to ownership reportedly pushing for bizarre in-game strategy, it's been a tumultuous season in Sacramento.

With rumors of the Kings potentially set to make their second coaching change of the season to lure George Karl off his couch and dump interim head coach Tyrone Corbin, Cousins used his postgame session with reporters to weigh in on the situation and take a shot at the media who have suggested he's holding up the Karl deal:

The rant transcribed:

I ain't pumped up. I just have a lot on my mind. Crazy thing about it - I just got a question for ya'll? How you gonna stop God's plan, how you gonna do that? That's what I wanna know, how you gonna stop God's plan? This city done put me through so much and I've stayed loyal to it the whole time. I just wanna know, how you gonna stop God's plan? God gives his hardest battles to the strongest souls. The marathon continues, I'm out.

Cousins was reportedly not happy when the Kings fired Mike Malone, and he's apparently at least one of the reasons why the Karl deal hasn't been completed yet.

As the Kings continue to negotiate with George Karl to become their coach, Cousins finds himself being blamed for Karl not already being hired. Some within the organization believe Cousins’ ability to get along with Karl is the holdup, but some in the Kings’ front office have reservations about Karl and have communicated those concerns to Cousins.

Through all the ups and downs, Cousins has played at an elite level and has proven to be one of the game's best big men. He's averaging career highs of 23.9 points (sixth in the league), 12.4 rebounds (third), 3.2 assists and 1.7 blocks and was rewarded with his first All-Star selection.
