Hawks without DeMarre Carroll for second straight game

ale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Small forward DeMarre Carroll of the Atlanta Hawks will not play Saturday against the Philadelphia 76ers, his second consecutive missed contest due to an Achilles strain.

With Atlanta's three All-Stars and sniper Kyle Korver, Carroll is the least-heralded starter on the East's top team. He's averaging 11.8 points and 5.3 rebounds a game this season, but his true value comes from his top-level defensive abilities. He also features prominently on the home page of the Hawks' ever-W-adding Twitter feed.

The Hawks - winners of 18 in a row - are undermanned again as they were vs. the Trail Blazers Friday. They'll also be without second-unit defensive specialist Thabo Sefolosha - who started in place of Carroll Friday and got hurt. It is likely Kent Bazemore will get a start on the wing against Philly.
