Grizzlies' Vince Carter diagnosed with left foot tendon injury

A seemingly harmless play in Thursday's blowout victory over the Denver Nuggets could force Memphis Grizzlies veteran Vince Carter to the sidelines for an extended period.

Carter was diagnosed with a left foot tendon injury, the team announced, a day after he hobbled off the court in the second quarter of the win. The Grizzlies said Carter will be reevaluated within the next week.

Vince Carter hurt, not doing much. Hope it's not Achilles.

An injured foot tendon is a somewhat scary thought for the recently-turned 38-year-old, who has been a model of good health in recent years after numerous injuries plagued him throughout his prime. Carter has missed two games this season, and only seven combined in the previous three when he was a key contributor to the Dallas Mavericks

The Grizzlies, however, should manage fine without Carter, who has been deployed sparingly during his first season in Memphis. Carter is logging a career-low 16.6 minutes per game, averaging six points and shooting 33.4 percent from the field.

Memphis signed Carter to a three-year, $12-million deal in the offseason.
