Grizzlies sign Tyrus Thomas to 10-day deal

Sam Sharpe-US PRESSWIRE

The Memphis Grizzlies bolstered their frontcourt Thursday by signing free agent forward Tyrus Thomas to a 10-day deal, the team announced.

Thomas was drafted fourth overall in 2006 and played seven seasons in the NBA before toiling without a deal last season. Thomas was always an athletic defender capable of making highlight plays, but he lacked consistency and was dogged by bouts of petulance.

Thomas played two games in the D-League this season as part of the Iowa Stampede in hopes of a comeback. He recorded 28 points with 15 rebounds and four blocks in 54 minutes.

The Grizzlies are well-stocked in the frontcourt, but Thomas should find time as an athletic shot-blocker off the bench if he's willing to play within head coach Dave Joerger's system.
