Steph Curry on 3-Point Shootout: 'I'm doing that until I win it, I'm salty about that'

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

He may very well be the greatest 3-point shooter the basketball world has ever seen. He's hit more threes per game than any player in history, doing so at a 43.5 percent clip, and he already ranks 72nd all-time in 3-point makes despite having played just 375 games.

Steph Curry has the resume of a 3-point shooting legend. And yet, he has no NBA All-Star Weekend 3-Point Shootout titles to his name.

Curry has been snake-bitten in the contest, failing to capture the crown three times in the past five seasons, including each of the last two. That doesn't mean he's going to shy away from the competition. Much the opposite, actually.

"I'm doing that until I win it," Curry said Wednesday. "I'm salty about that."

The Golden State Warriors' MVP candidate watched last year as Marco Belinelli took home the crown. The three seasons before that all saw current Cleveland Cavaliers win, with Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love and James Jones each winning a shootout.

Curry's primary competition may come from a different Eastern Conference sniper in Kyle Korver, who is leading the league with 128 triples and an obscene 53.6 percent mark from outside. Curry could also face stiff competition from a few of his Western Conference foes, including a teammate:

3-Point Leaders 3FGM 3FG%
Kyle Korver 128 0.536
Wesley Matthews 127 0.393
Steph Curry 118 0.399
Klay Thompson 115 0.446
Damian Lillard 114 0.375
James Harden 112 0.381
J.J. Redick 107 0.435

Any number of players could make a case for inclusion, and last year's field had eight competitors. Nobody else, however, has been Steph Curry with the shot.
