Hawks run win streak to 19 after perfect January
The Philadelphia 76ers almost pulled off a miracle.
The Hawks took down the 10-win Philly crew 91-85 in Atlanta on Saturday night, running their incredible winning streak to 19 games, and making more history in the process:
The Hawks have won 33 of 35, and haven't lost since Dec. 26, 2014.
Atlanta's remarkable franchise-best run matches the fifth-longest single-season winning streak in NBA history. It's been done by three other teams, and last by the San Antonio Spurs in 2013-14.
Atlanta was paced by Al "The Godfather" Horford, who had a game-high 23 points and game-high 11 rebounds. He went 10-of-16 from the floor and added four assists and three blocks, while only turning the ball over once.
The 76ers made it a game after a brutal first quarter, in which they were outscored 22-10. They shot only 39.2 percent from the field - and are probably wondering what could have been if they'd shown up in the first 12 minutes. They had an impressive second half, outscoring Atlanta 51-42.
A balanced attack brought the 76ers back into the game, and six players finished in double-digits in scoring. Nerlens Noel finished with a double-double, scoring 11 points and adding 10 rebounds.
The Hawks improve to 23-3 at home and are in New Orleans on Monday to face the Pelicans, hoping to continue their magical run and get to an astounding 20 wins in a row.
