Luol Deng out Wednesday due to illness

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

The illness holding Luol Deng down wasn't enough to keep him out of action Tuesday. But it seems a night of guarding Kevin Durant has made him worse for wear.

Deng managed to play 29 minutes in the Miami Heat's 94-86 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, but he won't be traveling with the Heat when they visit the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday. With the team only taking off for a one-game trip before returning home for a Friday game, Wednesday is as good a night as any to get the 29-year-old only his third night off of the season.

In 39 games, Deng is averaging 14.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists while shooting 49.5 percent from the field and 36.6 percent on 3-point attempts. The Heat entered play Tuesday playing 6.8 points per-100 possessions better with him on the floor.

Danny Granger stands to take on an additional load with Deng sidelined. The 31-year-old has been playing larger minutes over the last month but has struggled to score outside of a three-game outburst right before the new year. James Ennis, who has played sparingly over the last handful of games, could also see more run.
