VIDEO: Russell Westbrook ejected after tussle with Alex Len

Mark D. Smith-USA TODAY Sports

There's something in the air in the NBA on New Year's Eve.

Russell Westbrook became the second superstar to be tossed from a game after a physical confrontation on Wednesday, joining DeMarcus Cousins, who was ejected earlier in the day for throwing Marcus Smart to the ground.

In the second quarter of the Oklahoma City Thunder's game against the Phoenix Suns, Westbrook tried to grab a rebound from Alex Len, eventually leading Len to toss Westbrook to the ground. Len was assessed a Flagrant Foul-Penalty 1, giving Westbrook a pair of free throws. Westbrook was hit with a technical foul on the play.

Always heated, Westbrook continued mouthing off to the Suns' bench after his free throws, leading to another technical foul being called. Players only get two strikes in basketball and the second tech earned Westbrook an ejection from the game.

Len's initial foul was pretty aggressive, but it doesn't seem to have been worth getting thrown out before halftime.
