Davis, Pelicans halt Suns' winning streak at six

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

The Phoenix Suns were on fire, having won six consecutive entering their game against the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday. Consider Anthony Davis a firefighter, then.

Davis and the Pelicans extinguished the Suns' winning streak Tuesday, edging Phoenix 110-106 for an impressive victory that pushes New Orleans to 16-15 on the year. Davis was 7-of-15 from the floor, scoring 19 points with 18 rebounds, helping push the Pelicans to an 11-board edge that proved the difference.

Tyreke Evans hung well against the Suns' bevy of guards, too, scoring 24 points with eight rebounds, four assists and only a pair of turnovers, while Jrue Holiday stepped up to the challenge with 21 points and six assists of his own.

On the other side, the Suns got strong performances from two parts of their three-headed point guard monster. Eric Bledsoe and Goran Dragic combined for 43 points on 30 attempts with 11 rebounds and six assists, but Isaiah Thomas was 2-of-10 off the bench for just five points in 24 minutes.

The win puts the Pelicans just a game back of the Suns for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference and should provide a modicum of additional confidence for a team that's been somewhat up-and-down of late.
