Gordon Hayward almost ruined Derrick Rose's return from a four-game absence. Almost.

Hayward's missed buzzer-beater allowed the Chicago Bulls to hang on for a 97-95 road victory, but the post-game focus will surely be on Rose. Rose played 25 minutes on the night, scoring 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting and adding five assists in what was as solid an outing as can be expected after more than a week off.

The Bulls played the game without Kirk Hinrich (ribs) and Taj Gibson (ankle), and briefly lost Joakim Noah in the fourth quarter after he was poked in the eye.

Playing a shorthanded opponent allowed the Jazz to hang in there, as did hot shooting nights from Enes Kanter, Derrick Favors, Trey Burke, Trevor Booker and Joe Ingles. The Jazz shot 48.8 percent overall, a great mark against Chicago's defense, but mustered just three triples and eight free throws, allowing the Bulls to make up the difference.

The Jazz now fall to 5-10 but they've generally been more competitive than their record, and even their final scores, would indicate. The Bulls, meanwhile, improve to 9-5 despite their myriad injuries. They're now 2-2 to start their seven-game road trip, with a visit to Denver on tap for Tuesday.
