Raptor's James Johnson misses practice with tender ankle, return uncertain

The Toronto Raptors may be without super-sub James Johnson for a while, as head coach Dwane Casey provided an update on his versatile forward's injury status during practice on Monday.

"James didn't practice today," Casey said. "His ankle is tender and we don't know how long he's going to be out. There's a pretty good sprain on his ankle ... we'll see how it goes the next few days."

Johnson rolled his ankle after landing on a cameraman in the fourth quarter of the Raptors' contest Saturday against the Utah Jazz. The injury caused him to leave the game, though he did return to the court before exiting once more.

On the season, Johnson is averaging 7.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocks while logging time at both forward positions. His activity level on both ends of the court has endeared him to Casey, earning him almost 20 minutes per contest.

The Raptors' next game is Wednesday, when they host the Memphis Grizzlies, before playing a back-to-back against the Milwaukee Bucks and Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday and Saturday.

Update:

Johnson has been diagnosed with a severe ankle sprain. His return is uncertain.
