Former NBA center Robert Swift is facing weapons charges a month after police seized a grenade launcher and other weapons from his home.
Drugs were also found at the apartment Swift was sharing with alleged drug dealer Trygve Bjorkstam, who is facing charges, police say. Swift has been charged with unlawful possession of a short-barrelled shotgun, as reported by Levi Pulkkinen of Seattlepi.com.
Swift was a first-round draft pick in 2004 and last played in 2008-09 – the season the Thunder moved to Oklahoma City from Seattle. His life spiralled downward after his NBA career ended, culminating in a heroin addiction that burned through the remainder of his $20 million career earnings and cost him his million-dollar house in a Seattle suburb.
Police allege Swift was helping Bjorkstam collect drug debts.
"People have been ripping me off," Bjorkstam told police. "Rob and I are trying to put a stop to that."
Police raided the home of Swift and Bjorkstam on Oct. 4 after monitoring traffic in and out of the house for months and buying drugs from the house through an informant.
"There were used needles, methamphetamine pipes with residue, baggies with residue and pieces of used aluminum foil scattered in plain view throughout the residence and in both suspects' bedrooms," a police officer said in court papers.
Both Swift and Bjorkstam were arrested in the raid.
