Report: Team USA cuts John Wall, Bradley Beal and Paul Millsap

Team USA reportedly made some of its first round of cuts Monday, which left three rising stars on the outside looking in.

The names themselves are noteworthy, but given the wealth of star power at Team USA's disposal, the move was somewhat inevitable.

Losing the duo of John Wall and Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards comes as no surprise.

With respect to Wall, he was only added as a late-invite to training camp, and the organization has dropped multiple hints at their intention to carry just two "pure point guards," presumably referring to Kyrie Irving and Derrick Rose.

Beal is an excellent shooter and a solid defender, but he's only 21 and there's a glut of wing players who can better his skillset in the present.

The removal of Atlanta Hawks forward Millsap is also understandable. Like Wall, Millsap was also a late addition to camp, and was only seen as a potential fill-in for Kevin Love and Blake Griffin, who withdrew their candidacies near the start of training camp.

The three cuts leaves the roster numbered at 16. The program has until August 30 to submit a final 12-man roster.
